Laser Hair Removal

Sophy’s Clinique offers the highest quality of treatments at a price you can touch. Most of us can imagine certain areas we would love to have silky, smooth forever! How much money do we spend on shaving cream and nice razors? How much time do we spend shaving each day or tweezing and plucking in the mirror? And how embarrassed can we be with hair in places in our opinion that shouldn’t be there? How many of us suffer from ingrown hairs, razor bumps, sensitive skin or acne? All of these things are caused by one thing…hair!

Most commonly asked questions:
What areas can be treated?
We can treat any area of the body for both men and women. We can treat any skin color, including darker skin types. Some popular areas include:

Women’s Areas
Chin & Up
Underarms
Brazilian Bikini
Legs
Arms
Abdomen

Men’s Areas
Back and Shoulders
Chest and Abs
Front and Back of Neck
Face
Arms
Legs

How does laser hair removal work?
The Laser emits light, converted into heat that directly targets active growing hair follicles. When the laser emits a light beam, the hair follicle absorbs the laser energy and hair growth is permanently prohibited. It is important to be familiar with the hair growth cycles to understand why more than one treatment is required, as treatments cannot be expedited for faster results. Each hair passes though three distinct stages: Active Growth (Anagen), Transition (Catagen) and shedding (Telogen). If the hair is in its active phase, the hair follicle can absorb the laser light and the follicle can be destroyed. Only 20-40% of hair is actively growing at any time. When the hair is in the resting or shedding phases it is not capable of absorbing the laser light and no destruction of the follicle can occur. Therefore multiple treatments are required in order to hit each hair in the active stage.

What Lasers do we use?
At Sophy’s Clinique, we offer the highest level of treatments to insure patient satisfaction. Sophy’s Clinique offers laser hair removal treatments with the Cynosure Elite. At Sophy’s Clinique we are able to compare the quality of treatments as well as the treatment levels and patient satisfaction to ensure the highest level is achieved. Sophy’s Clinique uses a range of lasers allowing us to customize your treatment for your skin type. Not all lasers advertised for laser hair removal offer permanent results, giving some confusion to the general public. Patients need to be aware that IPL’s are not classified as lasers, and while offering some hair reduction, the results are not optimal. Laser Hair Removal at Sophy’s Clinique is permanent and guaranteed. Sophy’s Clinique is proud to offer laser hair removal with only the highest quality lasers on the market.

How often do I come in for treatments?
Treatments are quick and easy. They can be done in a lunch break. An upper lip takes less than 5 minutes and a full back takes about 30-45 minutes. Patients need to come in from 4-8 weeks apart depending on the area being treated. Basic hair anatomy and manufacture recommendations tell us that this is when hair growth cycles are changing and treatments should be done during this period. In your free consultation, your consultant will go over the best treatment plan to meet your needs.

What can I expect?
There is no downtime with laser hair removal. You are able to resume your daily activities such as work, school or run errands without noticeable evidence of laser treatment. A cold air (Zimmer cold air) blows over the skin before the laser heat to insure a more comfortable treatment. At Sophy’s Clinique comfort is a priority for our patients. In addition to the Zimmer, we also offer numbing cream and ice packs to help make treatments more comfortable. The Zimmer blows ice-cold air to allow the skin to cool before the laser pulses. Because treatments are so quick, patients are very satisfied with the level of comfort when compared to other lasers on the market.

Who is not a candidate?
There is not a laser on the market that will eliminate blonde, red, white or grey hair. Also, certain medications are photosensitive which would allow you to discontinue treatments until notified by a Sophy’s Clinique medical professional. Those who tan in the sun or tanning beds as well as using self-tanners are not candidates for a few weeks until after use or exposure. In your consultation, a Sophy’s Clinique representative can go over the right treatment plan for you.

Are lasers safe?
Sophy’s Clinique offers only FDA approved lasers for treatment. These lasers are non-ionizing which means they cannot change or mutate cells. Therefore, they do not cause cancer. Laser hair removal has been studied for decades without any short or long term effects to the tissues or cells of the body as the laser light is absorbed by the hair follicle and the energy disperses. Because Sophy’s Clinique offers lasers for all skin types, tanned or darker skin types are treated on lasers specifically designed to protect the pigment in their skin while permanently reducing hair growth. It is important to not receive treatment while on any photosensitive medications as well as wearing SPF daily on the treatment area during your treatment series.

Who does the treatments?
A medical doctor reviews each patients chart and oversee treatments and protocols. At Sophy’s Clinique, a Certified Technician or Nurse Practitioner or Physician will perform laser hair removal treatments. At Sophy’s Clinique, we esteem ourselves in the highest level of treatment quality and professional staff. All technicians go through extensive training and supervised practice, prior to performing treatments on our patients.

How many treatments do I need?
Because our hair grows in cycles and not all of these cycles are actively growing all at once, laser hair removal takes more than one treatment. Everyone is anatomically different; one person might require more treatments than another. Even different body parts can require different amount of treatments than other areas. This makes it difficult for anyone to claim exactly how many treatments will be needed until the patient is content with the results. We have calculated an average amount of treatments needed based on the thousands of patients we have treated over the past decade. The average is 6 to 10 treatments. It is important that we see you on a regular basis so that we can make sure to hit your hair right when it becomes active. For instance, we know that the hair on your face grows at a different rate than the hair on your back or legs. For this reason, it is important to stay on a regular schedule for each area of the body.
